New Okhla Industrial Development Authority is a department of the government of Uttar Pradesh in Gautam Buddha Nagar District, India. The acronym is also the name of the area (New Okhla Industrial Development Area), that is under the management of the department. NOIDA came into existence on 19 April 1976 and celebrates 19 April as "NOIDA Day".. The city, which was created under the UP Industrial Area Development Act, has first-class amenities and is considered to be one of the more modern suburbs of Delhi in the National Capital Region. It is also home to the NOIDA Film City.
History
The land within the NOIDA city limits was initially under the Bulandshahar District (approx. distance 37 km), but was later transferred to the Ghaziabad district (approx. distance 16 km). Later still, NOIDA was made into a separate administrative zone as a separate district by Chief Minister, Ms Mayawati. This decision of the Mayawati government came under review from the next government of Mulayam Singh Yadav, who reversed it in 2003, and remerged NOIDA with Ghaziabad. After a period of some 9 months, the decision was reversed yet again in 2004 and the city was once again made into a separate district. There were some allegations of political favours through low-priced land deals due to these decisions. Presently, the city is a separate district, called Gautam Budh Nagar, with its administrative HQ at SurajPur, a nearby town. However, the highest government official, the District Magistrate (DM) stays in Noida. The city falls under the NOIDA-Dadri legislative assembly seat (Vidhan Sabha) and Khurja Parliamentary seat (Lok Sabha).
NOIDA (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority) over the past 25 years, has emerged as a planned, integrated, modern residential City as well as industrial city that is well connected to Delhi through a network of smooth and wide roads, national highways and the ultra-modern DND flyover, offering inter-road connectivity to different parts of North India and also the Metro. NOIDA is one of the largest planned residential townships of Asia. It is a part of the National Capital Region (NCR) which is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is a suburb of Delhi. Today it stands as a well developed land, uninterrupted power supply, clean and safe drinking water, unfailing telephony, and fine residential complexes in a peaceful environment with a perfect security all over the place.

Location
Located at the doorstep of Delhi, NOIDA is only 14 Kms. away from Connaught Place and New Delhi Railway Station, both of which are in the heart of New Delhi. The 5.5 km. long, eight-lane NOIDA Toll Bridge across the river Yamuna connecting Maharani Bagh in Delhi to NOIDA has further reduced the distance, time and cost of commuting between Delhi and NOIDA. NOIDA has all the key advantages of Delhi without having its disadvantages. NOIDA is bound by NH-24 By-Pass in the North beyond which the Ghaziabad Development Area exists, in the East by River Hindon beyond which Greater NOIDA Industrial Development Area exists, in the West by River Yamuna beyond which are the States of Delhi and Haryana and in the South is the meeting point of the rivers Yamuna and Hindon. The township lies at an average elevation of 200m above Mean Sea Level and has a flat topography. The latitude and longitude of Noida are 28º2' N and 70º30' E respectively. The town area as per the master plan in 76-77 is about 3,000 hectares. Noida is a highly integrated township, offering facilities for all activities: Industrial, Commercial and Residential. However, in line with the Master Plan 2011 and to keep in pace with the growing needs of the township, the Authority has been planning and implementing many projects which will cater to the varied requirements of the inhabitants. NOIDA, an acronym for the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, is located on the left bank of the river and is equidistant from Ghaziabad and Delhi. It was developed near Delhi, across river Yamuna, in the 1970's as a modern industrial city. There has been extensive growth of population in NOIDA during the last two decades and the population is estimated to be about half a million. There is now a Greater NOIDA township being developed on the outskirts of NOIDA, to cater to the phenomenal influx of population into this region.
